Fish Health Inspectorate mortality

Date:
08/01/22-14/01/22
Mortality:
203,575
Mortality Rate:
26.16%
Reason given:
Moribund and dead fish in two ponds were blocking the outflow screen therefore inflow was reduced to prevent overflow. Supplementary O2 provided and morts removed from screen. Normal water flow was restored within 20-60 mins. Some fish in MP1 recovered. Fish in pond MP2 did not recover from the reduced O2 levels.
All fish were lost from pond MP2. Remaining fish in MP1 were examined by health representative and health appeared satisfactory. Histopathology samples were taken results were; gills slight hyperplastic pathology with localised inflammation within lamella, insufficient extent to compromise respiration. No specific diagnosis. Conclusion; Undetermined cause of moribund and dead fish collecting on screen which reduced water flow and subsequently reduced o2 levels causing further mortalities.
FHI visit will be brought forward to week 28/2/22.AFHA informed.

Paperwork completed remotely 25/11/2020, physical inspection completed on 18/11/2020. Mortality records submitted before physical inspection.
Ponds 8 and 5 usually have higher mortalities than the rest of the site because of RTFS. When fish come from the hatchery, they are initially put in these ponds and the increased stress is thought to increase susceptibility.
Limited visibility in ponds due to heavy rainfall, however fish displayed a healthy feed response when ponds were approached and no fish lethargic, or moribund fish were observed.

Facilities in place: 1 hatchery (2 comp hatches), 11 ponds, 10 indoor tanks. At the time of visit the 2 comp hatches were stocked, indoor tanks were empty awaiting transfer from the comp hatches. Outdoor ponds were stocked.
Paperwork completed remotely by on 06/10/21. Site visit by 13/10/21, accompanied by
In the comp hatch observed a few individuals where the tail has not developped properly, leading to them just swimming in circles. This does not rectify itself as they grow and these individuls are removed by staff as they are observed. In the outside ponds fish appeared to be healthy, displaying feeding response as the ponds are approached. Fish appeared to be in good condition. Company had new filter installed last year to reduce instances of eye fluke. [Original PDF]
