Overall the fish appeared to be in good condition and displayed feeding response when approached in the wooden pens. One mortality observed in one pen. Some light damage observed to dorsal and caudal fins on a small proportion of fish in most pens. One fish removed for VMD sampling, which appeared healthy. [Original PDF]

Site inspected following reports of increased mortality due to PKD and RTFS. Mortalities had been relatively low since the last inspection however in week 29 mortalities became elevated and have remained high since.
Peaks in mortality: week 29 2477 (1.59%), wk 30 5709 (2.29%), wk 31 2811 (0.92%), wk 32 12768 (4.3%), wk 33 17717
(6.28%) wk 34 (to 22/8/2023) 6197 (2.29%).
Site will fallow all but one pen in May 2024. One pen used for restocking loch.
Kilcalmonell stock received for the first time and are the only stock affected by the PKD.
2023 stock treated for RTFS with florocol, this has been confirmed as effective but PKD still an issue
Site is being morted three times a day, on inspection of pens double digit mortality was observed on some pens. Numerous fish were lethargic with distended abdomens. Five fish were removed for diagnostic sampling.
The site is now being used for the supply of stock to Kames sea sites as well as to the local angling club in the loch. [Original PDF]

Emergency mort disposal - skip to Dundas, routine morts incinerated on site
Morts during PKD; mortalities moved in sealed skips to Dundas. Estimate 70% losses to PKD. Fish on sites from Torhouse and Allt Mor. Checks in some cages to see proportion of fish with damaged kidneys. BTA survey by Nottingham uni looking at environmental DNA in water for PKD. Going forward they are looking to source all fish from Torhouse and if from Allt Mor take at smaller size and well before temp at 14oc which is thought to be the trigger for PKD activity.
Fish on withdrawal for Tricaine and Alphajet 3000 (500dd for trout). Vaccinated fish on withdrawal for tricaine until 4/3/24. Fish for VMD taken from cage not vaccinated and not on withdrawal.
Smaller fish currently on site destined for Loch Pooltiel in 8 weeks time. Larger fish on site are being held for the fishery within the loch. [Original PDF]
